Currency & Duty Free, but no ATMs

Many travellers come here completely unprepared for the absence of an ATM or any way to use credit cards to pay for goods and services. Bring plenty of cash. Australian dollars are used, along with Tuvaluan and Australian coins. MasterCard and Travellers cheques may be used at the National Bank of Tuvalu for cash advances, but this may take some time.

National Bank of Tuvalu (NBT) hours: Mon-Thurs 9:30-13:00, Fri 8:30-12:00.

There is a small on Arrivals Duty Free shop just on exit from the terminal. This is operated by Tefota Liquor Store. To purchase goods, hand your boarding pass to the Customs Officer in the Arrivals area and tell them what you would like to buy - they will supply you with a note to present at the Duty Free booth. The duty free allowance per person is 200 cigarettes plus 2L of spirits and 2L of wine.

A past Departure tax (A$30) has now been abolished and is now included in your ticket price.
